How to read these numbers
The reader counts what the printed programs list. It does not count who attended, and it cannot see changes made after the program was printed.
What is counted
- A listing is one person in one role in one session.
- People are names joined on an exact match. IWAC has had no reviewed merges, so one person printed with two spellings counts twice.
- An institution is matched when the printed affiliation maps to a ROR record. The share outside the US uses only matched institutions.
- A person page exists only for people listed at two or more conferences. The 2002 program does not count toward that, because it is an OCR'd scan.
Where the series break
- 2002: OCR of a scanned program, low confidence
- No program in the corpus in odd years before 2023 (the conference ran every two years)
- 2020 conference held virtually in 2021
How each year was read
- 2002
- Read from an OCR'd scan of the printed program, so names and institutions carry recognition errors. Treat every row as a draft.
- 2004
- The Seventh National WAC Conference (Bloomington), which the Clearinghouse files under IWAC 2004.
- 2006
- Read from the PDF program; paper titles are italic in the source and presenters follow their institution line.
- 2008
- Read from the PDF program. Several multi-author entries print no institution.
- 2010
- Read from the PDF program. The Clearinghouse's web list of presentations is incomplete, so it was not used.
- 2012
- Read from the web program with the detailed schedule; abstracts are not shown here.
- 2014
- The PDF prints chairs for only some sessions, and lists the presenters of a panel on one line.
- 2016
- The program prints each name and institution without a separator, so the split between them is partly inferred and some institutions are wrong.
- 2018
- The PDF prints chairs for only some sessions, and about sixteen session headings did not parse.
- 2020
- Held virtually in August 2021 after a postponement. Read from the web program.
- 2023
- Read from the PDF program; sessions with several papers list the presenters together.
- 2025
- Read from the web program, which prints an area for each session.
Caveats
This is a draft built from the programs the WAC Clearinghouse hosts. Abstracts are in the source programs but are not shown here. Check any figure you plan to publish against the session pages.
