Proposal areas
CCCC's programs print an area above each session ("Theory," "Writing Programs"). The headings change from year to year. This page shows how much of each program sat under each family of headings, and how the headings themselves were renamed.
The areas are CCCC's own. The families that join renamed headings across years are ours (
data/area_crosswalk.csv), not the organization's. One reader checked them in October 2026 and made no changes, but some joins are judgment calls. Some years add a convention theme track (2011, 2015, 2016, 2024, 2025) that took in a large share of sessions, which lowers every other share in those years. The lists of areas differ by era, so a family can rise or fall because CCCC added or dropped a heading: 2004–2010 had no first-year composition or social-justice area, and 2022–2026 has no institutional-and-professional, history-of-composition or language area as such. Read the table of headings below before reading the bars. 1998–2003 and 2018 have no areas (2018 used hashtags instead), and sessions without a printed area, such as most workshops and special sessions, are left out of the shares.The sessions here are those whose program page prints an area.
